Professor Ken Cattermole, whose analysis supported the event of the cell phone and computer systems, has died.

The professor, from East Bergholt in Suffolk, labored for a few years on the College of Essex and helped launch its telecommunications programme. He died peacefully, aged 98, on July 21.

His ebook Rules Of Pulse Code Modulation, revealed in 1969, turned an ordinary reference on the topic, the college stated.

In 1996, the Establishment of Electrical Engineers awarded Professor Cattermole the JJ Thomson Medal for his contribution to the event of telecommunications transmission within the UK and his work on pulse code modulation.

Professor Cattermole served with the Corps of the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers within the Second World Struggle earlier than working in trade, initially for Customary Telephones and Cables (STC).

He joined the College of Essex in 1968 within the newly created function of chair of communications and for some years suggested authorities on communication requirements, the college stated.

Professor Cattermole totally retired in 1990 however continued to run a science group, alongside his different pursuits of enjoying the piano and gardening.

His son Peter Cattermole stated his father had a “outstanding life”.
