Boris Johnson’s ethics adviser has warned the ministerial code of conduct dangers being positioned in “ridicule” after the prime minister did not heed his recommendation over Partygate.
In his annual report, issued days after the Sue Grey report into the Partygate scandal, Christopher Geidt revealed that he had repeated urged the PM to make a public assertion to clarify whether or not he felt he had personally breached the code in relation to illegal lockdown-breaking gatherings at No 10.
However Lord Geidt stated that the recommendation – supposed “merely been to make sure that the prime minister ought to publicly be seen to take accountability for his personal conduct – had not been heeded by Mr Johnson.
